The forestry and woodworking industry is a strategically important component of Ukraine’s economy. Forestry is a significant natural resource, the main source of which is timber. Untreated timber has always been, is and will remain one of the main types of raw materials, without which many branches of industry cannot work, because forests have not only ecological, social, but also economic importance, they also are a guarantee of sustainable development of the country’s agro-industrial complex, as well as its food and energy security.

On July 1, 2021, changes in legislation that directly affect the field of timber trade came into force.

What do forest users and woodworkers need to know about it?

 
1. The conditions of work on the exchange are changing. From now on, buyers will not only submit a package of documents to participate in auctions for the purchase and sale of untreated timber, but will also be accredited on the exchange and acquire membership by concluding a corresponding agreement. Such an agreement will be concluded for one year with the possibility of extension. And only after that, legal entities and individual entrepreneurs will have the opportunity to apply for participation in auctions.
2. A similar procedure for acquiring membership on the exchange is mandatory for sellers. They will be permanent forest users - forestry enterprises of regions under the supervision of regional forestry and hunting managements, which harvest wood on the territory of Ukraine and intend to sell it.
3. All untreated timber of permanent forest users will be auctioned, in accordance with approved estimates, as well as timber for individual repair and construction.
4. After passing the accreditation at the Ukrainian Universal Exchange, wood sellers will submit their offers to the exchange, which will place an announcement about the auction on the official web site and on the sites of agents with whom it cooperates on partnership terms.

Ukrainian Universal Exchange LLC was licensed by the National Securities and Stock Market Commission, in accordance with the Law of Ukraine "On Commodity Exchanges" and received the right to organize trades in untreated timber under the new rules.
